Dogs on Leash in all Open Spaces

The Orange Conservation Commission announces today that there will be stepped- up enforcement activity in Orange’s Open Spaces by the Animal Control Officer from Milford Animal Control. Sharon Ewen, Chairperson of the Orange Conservation Commission, wants to remind the public using Orange’s Open spaces that there are Local Ordinances requiring that owners of dogs must have their animals leashed and that solid waste left by their dog must be removed by the owner. She states “there is an increasing number instances in our Open Spaces where unleashed dogs are running loose and frightening other users. This combined with owners failing to clean up after their dogs is detrimental to other people trying to enjoy our beautiful open spaces. ”

The stepped- up enforcement activity will include random visits by Animal Control to Orange’s Open Spaces including ( Wepawaug Conservation Area, Ewen Farm Preserve, Turkey Hill Preserve, Wright’s Pond/Wepawaug Bend, Racebrook Tract, Fred Wolfe Park and Housatonic Overlook & Tucker’s Ridge) by the Animal Control Officer from Milford. The Officer will cite violators of the Local Ordinances. Such violators “shall be subject to arrest and prosecution and may be fined an amount not to exceed $100.
